The adult in the room
Tonight Obama, as usual, showed that he was the adult in the room – and not just that particular room but in the debate in general terms, especially when compared to what we’ve seen over the past few months. He made it clear that Republican misinformation campaigns were the low road and offered to work with them if they took the high road. That said, I enjoyed watching the sour pusses on select Republicans and health care executives in the crowd.
In the Republican response after the speech, Rep. Dr. Charles Boustany, who’s been sued for malpractice three times, immediately told a lie by telling the country that their health insurance was going to be replaced with a government bureaucracy – something that Obama had dispelled in his speech just moments prior. I hope he’s promptly “called out” by the Obama administration as was promised about such “wild claims”. Tomorrow’s Gibbs press conference should be an interesting one.
